Equifax has recently branched into consumer credit protection. Two of its more popular products are Equifax Credit Watch and Credit Lock.
Equifax Credit Watch allows members to buy credit reports and scores and to receive alerts on credit activity such as inquiries, new data, and new services. The products are subscription based—users have to subscribe to the service to avail of Credit Watch products.
Credit Lock helps limit inquiries made into a person’s credit, which can pull the credit score down. Other credit bureaus also offer this feature, usually through third-party service providers such as LifeLock. With Credit Lock, only parties authorized by the subject can make inquiries. A PIN system is used to verify inquiries. Credit Lock settings can be managed through Credit Watch.
