Step 1

CreditReport.com and AnnualCreditReport.com

The credit report issued by the site is often confused with the free annual credit report mandated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). According to the FCRA, Americans are entitled to one free credit report every year from each of the three credit bureaus.  The report is available from Annual Credit Report (annualcreditreport.com), a site put up by the three bureaus.

CreditReport.com issues a different report and is not affiliated with the FCRA program. This is clearly stated on the site’s front page; there’s even a link to the Annual Credit Report site briefly explaining the FCRA rule.

The key difference between the two is that the CreditReport.com credit report comes with a free credit score. With the annual report, one has to purchase the score separately from any of the three bureaus or other resource sites such as Credit.com and myFICO (myfico.com). The report can be viewed online and accessed instantly, provided there are no verification problems.
